Where cheap plans cut corners
- The phone menu. Google Voice Starter and Quo Starter leave it out. Google Voice adds auto attendants on Standard at $20; Quo adds phone menus on Business at $23. See which plans include an auto attendant.
- The contract. Vonage's $13.99 and Nextiva's $15 need a year or more. Month to month they are $19.99 and $23.
- Minimums. Aircall bills at least 3 licenses, so its $30 plan costs at least $90 a month.
- Desk phones. Grasshopper sells no desk phones and is built around its apps (its FAQ says a VoIP desk phone with an internet connection should work), and Vonage supports desk phones only on Premium and Advanced.
- Taxes and fees. Every provider adds them on top. Business phone system pricing works through a full five-user bill.
